Working Student Position Opening

Announcement: Long term WORKING STUDENT POSITION AVAILABLE starting now! Playland Farm has a working student position coming available now. Please contact Glenda Player now if you are interested in this position. Playland Farm’s short term working student positions are full for summer 2010.

The working student program offers instruction, riding experience, learning opportunities, housing, and horse board in exchange for working on the farm. Our program is designed to provide everyone with the fundamental skills required to advance thru the equine industry. Playland Farm works with each working student, making sure to address thier individual needs, to aid them in attaining thier goals. In order to accomplish those goals, mounted and unmounted lessons are offered on a regular basis with a variety of horses; as well as numerous opportunities to compete their own horse.

Playland Farm offers a variety of opportunities to gain a well-rounded experience! Between competing in dressage, show jumping, and eventing off of the farm, hosting competitions on the farm, the breeding program, in-hand work with the foals & young horses, lesson and training program, and horses for sale, experience can be obtained in multiple sectors of the equine industry! Playland Farm offers excellent facilities and effective instruction, creating an unique environment to help you attain your goals.

Playland Farm accepts two to three long term working students, and can accept additional short term working students. Working students are required to be 18 years old. Long term working students stay for a minimum of six months, and receive free housing at the farm and board for one horse. Short term working students generally come for summer of spring break, and receive board at a reduced rate. There is limited housing available for short term working students. All students are encouraged to bring their own horse if they have one. Depending on the students' skill level, students may receive the opportunity to work several horses a day, whether it be in-hand or under saddle, including their own horse.

Be ready to work hard and learn alot! In exchange for instruction, housing, and board, students work six days a week doing all kinds of activities around the horse farm. Working students overall job duties will encompass all aspects of equine husbandry and daily care to include: feeding, mucking, grooming, tacking up, cleaning tack, first aid, riding, lungeing, assisting with care of young horses, assisting with all aspects of equine breeding, foaling, working with foals, assisting with training of horses' in hand and all ground work. Etc. While there is lots of work, Playland Farm has a great team environment in a friendly atmosphere creating pleasant and fun working conditions.

While there is no required level of competition experience, working student applicants are expected to be competent riders and to have some experience in equine husbandry. Character is important! A desire to learn and willingness to work hard and complete each task the Playland Farm way is essential. Students are required to have their own health insurance arrangements. Part-time positions are occasionally available for students that have thier own housing. Working student applicants are required to come spend a minimum of two days at Playland Farm to interview within the program.
